The Madonna of the Stairs is on loan to the exhibition “Donatello, Il Rinascimento“ at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, from 19 March to 31 July 2022.
The bas-relief, sculpted by Michelangelo when he was just 15 years old, is a tribute to Donatello, the greatest sculptor of the 15th century, from whom the theme of the steep flight of stairs and the particular bas-relief technique of ‘stiacciato’ derive. It is precisely this close relationship with the great master’s reliefs that prompted Casa Buonarroti to lend the work on an exceptional basis.
In order to stimulate and facilitate the comparison between Donatello’s work and that of Michelangelo, there will be a reciprocal reduction on the cost of the entrance ticket:
